On June 7, 2019, the tourist season was opened in Risan with a cheerful, generous and colorful gastronomic festival — the Risan Pasta (or Risanski Macaruli, if you use the original Montenegrin name).

Like all past years, the main coordinator of the feast was the Women's Organization of Risan, a local union of the sailor’s wives. Those ladies are planning all the details of the event and cook a lot for their buffet table. They are supported by the Kotor Tourism Organization and several sponsors.

The home-made sweets on the table of the Women's Organization, pies, muffins, cakes, cookies, pastries:

Traditional dessert tulumba, fried pieces of dough soaked in sweet syrup:

And more nourishing dishes. The central place was taken by pasta, home-made or store-bought, with the different sauces.

The members of the Tivat Women’s Organization also made quite a few dishes. The brave ladies conducted famous Žućenica Festival in Tivat just a week ago, but, nevertheless, managed to think up a new menu for the Risan celebration and present a bunch of different goodies.

Risan bakery named Hipnos presented a big selection of pastries:

Male serene — Little Mermaids — from the village of Đenovići, near Herceg Novi:

Their table was one of the best in terms of pasta varieties.

It was not home-made pasta, but very tasty cooked with different ingredients.

For example, fusilli with spicy sauce and pumpkin seeds:

By the way, many dishes presented at the festival were vegetarian and vegan-friendly.

Delicious tagliatelle noodles with vegetables and sesame seeds:

Baked elbow macaroni with cheese and eggs:

Sweet ending after a hearty meal from the Little Mermaids.

Kotor’s Karampana offered a vast menu of desserts and sweets.

Less sophisticated treats — homemade waffles:

or cakes with berries and jams:

The team called Ruža vjetrova — Rose of the Winds — from the village of Bijela, Herceg Novi municipality, also had a lot of baked goods:

Another team from the Herceg Novi district, Bonaca from the village of Zelenika:

Farfalle with delicate cheese, arugula and cherry tomatoes:

Kavačka Ala Maka from the village of Kavač arrived in Risan:

They spoiled the audience with homemade pasta dishes:

Egg appetizers:

pasta casserole:

cute sandwiches:

and more pasta with a variety of sauces:

The team from the small village of Gornji Orahovac had a table with traditional baked goods:

Among them was a pita zeljanica — filo pastry pie with greens:

The kindergarten Radost — Joy — set the table nearby:

That was another participant of the festival with a lot of sweets:

An assortment of cookies on the table of the Fešta team from Baošići:

Local school Veljko Drobnjaković made a poster for the festival:

And they also prepared snacks and bites:

The Pasta Festival took place on the Risan Promenade, near the park. There was enough space for all participants and culinary lovers.

The fest started at 8:30 pm with folklore music and dance performances and food tasting, and lasted about 1,5 hours.

This event is a good example of Montenegrin hospitality, it was free of charge for all visitors.
