Bijeli Pjesak and Verige are the two fortifications built in the second half of the XIX century in the north-west of Vrmac peninsula several kilometers outside Tivat. These fortifications helped Austro-Hungarian troops contain the enemy and protect the Bay of Tivat, Verige straight and Risan. There were also observation towers, an ammunition depot, and barracks.
